Organization Summary:

MACTE (Michigan Association of Colleges for Teacher Education) is a coalition of more than 30 Michigan colleges and universities working together to promote high quality preparation and continuing education for all school personnel.

 

JOB TITLE: Public Relations Specialist                        Location: Lansing, MI

Type: Part Time / One Year Appointment – Renewable

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

MACTE seeks qualified candidate to work as part of a team to advance MACTE’s priorities.

  • Attend and participate in Board of Higher Education/Day on the Hill Meetings and other relevant policy committee and teams
  • Directly communicate and lobby the legislature and administrative agencies to advance MACTE priorities
  • Provide advice and guidance to MACTE members and other strategic partners on policy and governmental affairs matters
  • Monitor the content of educational policy and determine possible effect on MACTE members’ interests
  • Provide regular updates of legislative activities to MACTE members and external audiences in addition to an annual summary of activities
  • Provide updates to Directors and Representatives of Teacher Education Programs (DARTEP) at Fall and Spring meetings
  • Work with MACTE board to strategize, integrate and coordinate resources to support priorities. This includes communications, grassroots engagement and field work activities
  • Plan and coordinate meetings between MACTE members and elected officials to discuss legislative issues and proposals
  • Instruct members in advocacy techniques and strategies
 
Experience and Qualification Requirements:
  • 3-5 years public policy – lobbying experience
  • Knowledge of state and federal educational policy
  • Familiarity with state educational organizations
  • High level organizational skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivation and initiative as well as ability to work as part of a team
  • Computer literate
